CHARACTER PRODUCTIONS was created in 2006 by Joyce and Deirdre Cato of South Carolina as a means to provide quality storytelling programs/assemblies to schools, churches, libraries, child development centers, businesses, and private functions.  These two sisters-in-law wanted to make a positive influence on those around them, so they developed these fun and educational presentations for children.  Current programs emphasize themes such as:  faith in God, literacy, character education, fitness, and pet care.  Each program is customized for each individual performance.

Joyce has 21 years of experience working in child development centers and dental health environments. Joyce has had extensive training from various higher institutions and trained with accomplished professionals from across the United States to advance her knowledge in her field.   Her personality radiates to children and adults alike.  Her positive attitude is contagious once you meet her, and she never meets a stranger.  Joyce is always willing to go above and beyond to help others, and her kindness will be remembered by many lives she has touched along the way.  On Sunday, you can often find her guiding the little ones during one of her fun filled lessons during children's church or helping out as a parent volunteer in her son's school.  Although Joyce is very active in her church and community, she still finds time to be a loving wife and mother.  Joyce's husband and son give her inspiration, and it shows in all that she does.

Deirdre has 15 years of experience as a teacher and guidance counselor in traditional and alternative schools.  While holding a Master's Degree in Instructional Accommodations, she traveled across Florida and South Carolina viewing some of the best models for alternative schools.  She helped create at-risk programs in Chesterfield County by implementing one of the first programs in the district at a time when alternative schools were beginning to bloom.  As the school expanded, she spent nine years as a member of the team that developed it in to one of the best programs in the state.  Schools from around the globe contacted them for information on their structure.  In the traditional setting, she was awarded the honor of "Teacher of the Year" by her peers.  As a result, she served on the district's first teacher forum to implement a district-wide instructional fair for educators.  As a guidance counselor, she helped guide her school to an EXCELLENT rating in character development on the South Carolina School Report Card.  With her husband and two children cheering her on, and God guiding her every step of the way, she is now taking the show on the road to help as many organizations as she can.

Each year,
Character Productions introduces a new and exciting character on the tour.  We focus on character education and reading promotion.  This year, our Scottish terrier mascot Pepper McGee TM is out performing in various venues.  Pepper was born in Scotland, lived in Australia, and he is now a proud citizen of the United States.  The children absolutely LOVE him.
